Update! New Nas album will be untitled

The title of groundbreaking hip hop artist Nas’ controversial new album will not be switched from ‘Nigger’ to ‘Nas,’ as previously reported-it will be untitled, according to Nas.

“I want my fans to know that creatively and lyrically, they can expect the same content and the same messages,” says Nas in a recent statement released to the Internet. “The streets have been waiting for this for a long time. The people will always know what the real title of this album is and what to call it."

Despite public support from Island Def Jam Chairman LA Reid, former label CEO/President Jay-Z and other mainstream artists, critical and commercial pressures from retailers lead Nas to alter the title of his new record, due out July 1; the album explores the perceptions and impact behind the term “Nigger” in the midst of a heated Presidential nominee race between a black man and a white woman.

"It's important to me that this album gets to the fans," says Nas. He and his wife, world renowned pop singer Kelis, in February showed up at the Grammy Awards clad in “Nigger” T-shirts and jackets. The untitled album, Nas’ follow up to ‘Hip Hop Is Dead’ (2006), reportedly features beats and vocals by Salaam Remi, Jermaine Dupri, DJ Toomp, No I.D., Rick Ross, The LOX, dead Prez, and Jay Electronica. Nas also wants to collaborate with underground favorite MF Doom. The sarcastic “Be A Nigger Too” and new expository “N.I.G.G.E.R (The Slave & The Master) have already leaked to the Internet and mixtapes.
